MMA fights hit Des Moines
“Maximum Glory” will be held Friday, July 9 at the Val Air Ballroom, 301 Ashworth Road in West Des Moines. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25. Improv Festival takes stage
The first annual Iowa Improv Festival will take place Saturday, July 10 at the Stoner Theater, Civic Center of Greater Des Moines, 221 Walnut St. The festival will feature four regional improvisation troupes and is divided into two sessions of 90 minutes each. Each session will showcase two troupes, and a free jam for ticket holders will combine their talents of all four troupes at 10 p.m. The event begins at 6 p.m. Admission is $12 or purchase tickets through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster). Muay Thai Classic visits town
The 2010 Muay Thai Classic will be held Saturday, July 10 and Sunday, July 11 at the Holiday Inn Airport Convention Center, 6111 Fleur Drive. The largest Muay Thay kickboxing tournaments in the Midwest, the event brings more than 300 fighters from 25 different states and three Canadian provinces. Register for bike ride
The Clive Mayor’s Bike Ride will take place July 17 starting at 2 p.m. at the Clive Aquatic Center, 1801 N.W. 114th St. The 17.5-mile ride begins at the Aquatic Center and is being held in conjunction with the Clive Festival and Jazz in July. Registration is $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 10 and under. Half of the proceeds benefit the purchase of additional trees to plant in the medians of N.W. 128th Street.
