June 28


June 28, 6:45 a.m. to 5:16 p.m.
Burglary in the 2300 block of 5th Avenue. The victim stated to officers that she was in a hurry when she left for work and left her window open. When she returned home, she found that the window screen had been removed. Officers cleared the area, and the victim told them that she was missing an Xbox 360, Wii, laptop computer and jewelry, valued at approximately $2,500. The victim has no known suspects. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.


June 28, 1:08 p.m.
Strongarm robbery in the 7900 block of Southwest 10th Street. Officers met with the victim who stated that she was inside her residence when she heard her dog barking. She went outside to see and when she did so she observed a white male attempting to take her dog by pulling it through an opening in the fence. As the victim was attempting to grab the dog from the victim, the suspect reached over the fence, grabbed the victim’s hair and “poked” her in her eye. The suspect then grabbed the diamond necklace the victim was wearing. The victim was able to grab the dog and run back toward her residence. The suspect fled on a bike westbound on County Line Road. The victim sustained an injury to her arm and a swollen eye. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.


June 28, 7 p.m.
Assault in the 1100 block of 7th Street. The victim told officers that he was sitting on a bench at DMACC waiting for his ride when the female suspect started an argument with him. The victim said that she told him she was going to fight. The suspect then punched him in the head and in the private area. The victim then tried going back into the building, but the suspect followed him still trying to start a fight. When the victim was able to call police, the suspect then left. Officers told the victim that the suspect has a history of assault charges on her record. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. CV



Name: Daniel Brown
The story: Upon arrival, officers from the Polk County Sheriff’s Department met with the suspect, later identified as Daniel Brown, age 21, who was walking away from the scene of the incident. Brown told officers that the victim had hit him so he retaliated and hit him back. Due to Brown’s aggressive behavior, officers handcuffed Brown and placed him in the back of the squad car. Officers reported that Brown did not have any injuries to his head or body that would have been consistent with what he reported. Officers then met with the victim, age 74, who stated that he asked Brown for the key to the car that Brown was buying from him. Brown refused to give him the key and assaulted him, resulting in multiple lacerations on his head and hands and numerous bruises to the face and body. In the process, Brown also assaulted another victim, age 68, punching her in the chest. Brown was placed under arrest and transported to the Polk County Jail. He was charged with assault causing serious injury and simple assault.
