The Des Moines City Council recently approved $1,432 for Rod Santizo, senior police officer, to attend training in Charleston, Ill., from June 27 to July 1. The training will provide re-certification for instructing in the use and deployment of aerosols, specialty impact munitions, distraction devices and chemical munitions. The council also approved $1,407 for Douglas Philiph, assistant city attorney, and Mikel Johnson, Human Rights specialist, and $1,522 for James Bowman, Human Rights Commissioner, to attend the National Fair Housing Policy Conference in New Orleans, La. The conference runs from July 18 to 23 and is a requirement of the Department of Housing and Urban Development through a mutual contract. The conference will provide updated information on Fair Housing policy, law and issues. The amount expended for travel and training as June 7 is $316.358. CV
