Drake University hosts track and field
The 2010 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held Wednesday, June 23 to Sunday, June 27 at Drake Stadium, Drake University. All-session tickets, covering five days, are $100. A special Saturday and Sunday package is $50. Individual session tickets are $20 for Wednesday, $25 for Thursday and $30 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Charity bags tourney scheduled
Boston’s Restaurant and Sports Bar, 12401 University Ave., has partnered with the YMCA Healthy Living Center to host a Charity Bags Tournament on Saturday, June 26. The event, which benefits local residents with spinal cord injuries and other neuromuscular deficiencies, includes a putt-putt tournament sponsored by the Budweiser Girls between Bags rounds. The tournament starts at noon, and registration is $10 per person. Participants are encouraged to register early at Boston’s or at the YMCA, 12493 University Ave., but same day registration is available until 11:45 a.m. Teams of two are welcome, and all singles will be paired into teams. The top five teams will receive prizes including a one-night stay at Wildwood Lodge and dinner for two at Boston’s.
Help clean up the shore
The second annual Rubbish Regatta will be held Saturday, June 26 at Oak Grove Beach, off Highway 415 on N.W. 98th Ave. in Polk City. Sponsored by the Des Moines Sail and Power Squadron and the Saylorville Lakes Army Corps of Engineers, participants will clean the lakeshore from 9 a.m. to noon. Groups will gather at 8:30 a.m. for safety instructions. Participants should provide their own picnic lunch. Participants will turn some of the collected debris into model rubbish sailing crafts, and prizes will be offered. The Corps will provide one night of free camping at any of the lake’s campgrounds for three hours of volunteer time. Call 266-0071. CV
