Shhh…the gardens will hear you
The Waterbury Neighborhood will host a Secret Gardens of Waterbury tour of seven private gardens on Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13. The tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Free parking and shuttles to the gardens will be available from the Des Moines Art Center parking lot, 4700 Grand Ave. Tickets are available at all metro Dahl’s location, Grounds for Celebration, Herndon’s Des Moines Seed Co., Des Moines Seed and Nursery, La Mie Bakery and Restaurant and Bauder’s Pharmacy. Visit Terrace Hill for theater
The Terrace Hill Foundation has collaborated with the Des Moines Playhouse to present a theater version of “Little Women.” Presented under the Victorian Voices program, audiences are encouraged to make reservations for the evenings from Thursday, June 10 to Saturday, June 12 by calling 280-3450. All shows star at 7:30 p.m. and are performed in the carriage house courtyard at Terrace Hill. An old-fashioned ice cream social will follow each performance. Tickets are $45, and all proceeds will support the restoration, maintenance and development of Terrace Hill.
PrideFest arrives
The 2010 PrideFest will be held place Saturday, June 12 and Sunday, June 13 in downtown Des Moines. The event promotes acceptance, tolerance and understanding of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. The two-day celebration will include performers, music and exhibitors. Celebrate 100 years
The Cornerstone 100th Anniversary will take place Monday, June 14 at the Des Moines City Hall, 400 Robert D. Ray Drive. The event is scheduled from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will commemorate the 100 years since the cornerstone for the Des Moines Municipal Building was laid in 1910. There will be costumed re-enactors, old vehicles, horses and buggies, refreshments and items recently received from the casket in the cornerstone will be displayed.
