Are Waterbury residents trying to stop all live music after 5 p.m.?

Now that it seems the fight to lower the sound at the Val Air Ballroom is coming to an end, it makes me wonder what Mrs. Brown and the rest of the Waterbury neighbors will try to shut down next. Will Mrs. Brown try to ruin Valley Junction’s Farmers’ Market? As I sat and listened to the beautiful music and people gathered on a wonderful Thursday night, I couldn’t help but look toward the Waterbury neighborhood area to see if Mrs. Brown and her neighbors were perched in their glass houses checking the decibel levels of the outdoor concert. I recently read Kent Carlson’s column (“Preserving Integrity, May 6) that talked about having an item sold unfairly by a couple from that area. Their explanation — they didn’t really know what they were doing.

Maybe Mrs. Brown and her mob don’t know what they are doing. What’s the next venue to go? The Simon Estes Amphitheater?

Surprised at the reaction to bike lanes on Ingersoll

I used to drive up and down Ingersoll Avenue on my daily commute. Although there is a lot of dismay over the new lane changes, I think the fact that the City of Des Moines has just resurfaced and widened High Street, one block north of Ingersoll Avenue, has gone unnoticed. It is now beautifully surfaced and has only one stop sign from 28th Street to Martin Luther King Parkway. Thus I simply take High Street into the city.

I used to get coffee and groceries on Ingersoll, but now get them in West Des Moines. So what little shopping I did in Des Moines is now practically zero.
So, I am not inconvenienced, as some people are stating. I get a better road to drive on (High Street), West Des Moines gets more of my business and the bikers can bump along all the way down Ingersoll.
