There is no ‘tri’ — only do or not do
Yes, those are the famous words of the Jedi master Yoda from “Star Wars” fame, with a slight modification for this week’s cover story, of course. The phrase has never seemed more fitting.


Athletes from 20 countries and more than 30,000 spectators will show up for the Hy-Vee Triathlon on June 11-13 at Raccoon River Park. With a $3 million economic impact to Greater Des Moines, the event has gained the attention of athletes and non-athletes alike. It also places a spotlight on the metro area, which is why we are adding to the already massive media coverage.


Holding world-class events in Iowa were only a dream just a decade or so ago. Now events like the Hy-Vee Triathlon are helping to bring more attention to our state and central Iowa. And that’s good for everyone. Now we all need to do our part by supporting the event and helping businesses like Hy-Vee that have made significant investments in our communities. A&E editor Jared Curtis does his part in this week’s cover story, sharing the victories and struggles of local residents who have made the commitments to earn the title of tri-athlete.
