A question without an answer

Losing a family member, especially at a young age, is difficult for all who are involved. Combine that loss with a tragic accident, and the effects are exponential.
When Steve Davidson died in a building collapse on Court Avenue 40 years ago this week, he left a promising future and a lot of unanswered questions. His family still struggles with the loss, wondering why it happened and trying to hold people accountable for the unnecessary death. Eyewitness testimony from the accident leaves those who learn about this with a feeling of helplessness and despair. One cannot truly imagine the pain and suffering of losing a child or sibling in such a way.

Reporter Matt Miller chronicles the details surrounding the tragic accident in this week’s cover story, interviewing family, friends and officials who continue to ask the question, “why?”
