Terry Branstad is like the Christian God of the fundamentalists

Terry Branstad has been around forever and only takes credit for the good things that happened under his watch. Don’t his Republican partisans still believe in term limits? He has served as Lt. Governor and Governor for 20 years. Isn’t that long enough to serve as governor?

He says he will create 200,000 jobs if elected, but what kind of jobs are those? How many of those were $20 or more per hour and provided decent health benefits — the types of jobs that would support a family.

Branstad was the governor of and for wealthy landowners and businessmen. He created and supported the Iowa Capital gains tax deduction that totally eliminated personal income tax on the sale of farmland and business. How did he help low and middle income wage earners? He raised the sales tax rate twice during his administration from 3 to 5 percent. He certainly went out of his way to spare the wealthy from paying any additional tax.

Half of the families make less than $60,000 per year and only 1 percent earns more than $300,000 annually. If he could create jobs for those families that would pay the head of each household half a million dollars a year (like the job he left to run for Governor), I would vote for him with no hesitation.
