Dragons coming to Des Moines
Best selling fantasy author Bryan Davis will visit Wellspring Parable Bookstore, 10465 Hickman Road, on Friday, May 14. The event runs from 4 to 6 p.m. and will include a book signing, contests and selected readings from his new book “Starlighter.” The event is free and open to the public. Feast in the Wild
Blank Park Zoo will kick off another season of conservation, education and recreation at “Feast in the Wild” on Saturday, May 15. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and will include live entertainment, chef demonstrations and allow guests the opportunity to purchase food from a variety of restaurants. Drop off the drugs
The Polk County Substance Abuse and Addictions Workgroup will hold its second drug drop on Saturday, May 15. The drop runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Workgroup will accept prescription and over-the-counter medications, medication samples, pet medications, vitamins, supplements and homeopathics, ointments, lotions, creams, oils and soaps. The Workgroup will not accept needles, sharps, syringes with needles, aerosols, thermometers, IV bags, infectious waste or illicit substances. All substances must be in their original container. Celebrate Asian culture
The 2010 CelebrAsian: Iowa Asian Heritage Festival will take place Saturday, May 15 at the East Capitol Campus of the State Capitol, 400 E. 14th St. The event is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will offer cultural and modern entertainment, food, gift sales, children’s activities, health and wellness, sports and more.
