When quantity matters

We love to eat. Yes, eating is essential to live, but it has become more than a necessity. Dining is also entertainment, and the sight and smell of food is often as important as its taste. But that doesn’t mean quality should be overlooked. With a stronger focus on the origins of the food, diners are becoming more knowledgeable about what they consume. Even so, let’s not think for a moment that quantity doesn’t also play into the picture. Our case in point is clear in this week’s cover story, as our arts and entertainment editor, Jared Curtis, took on a sampling of eating challenges at local restaurants, sharing his pleasures and pains from the experiences. From “The Fatty Challenge” at Fanatic’s, to the “54-ounce Belly Buster” at Rube’s Steakhouse, to “The Showdown Challenge” at Cactus Bob’s, and the “Big Max Burger” at Grandma Max’s, Jared had his hands — and stomach — full. Let’s just say we learned to avoid him around the office for a few days, but we enjoyed his stories all the same. You will, too.
