April 5-7

 

April 5, 2:51 p.m.
Assault causing injury in the 1500 block of Arlington Avenue. The victim stated she was near her home when the suspect pulled up and started “talking trash.” The suspect was allegedly angry because she wanted the victim to help “snatch” her sister’s children out of a foster home. The victim refused to help, and the suspect then began to send threatening text messages to the victim. When the suspect showed up, the suspect and her got into a physical fight. The victim suffered minor injuries. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

 

April 6, 5 p.m.
Burglary in the 1300 block of 22nd Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the reporting person who stated that his girlfriend’s house had been broken into. Officers observed the front door that had been broken with a brick, and the backdoor was also broken. The suspect(s) broke the drywall and ransacked the victim’s dress and took an unknown amount of cash. Officers also observed a bullet hole in the wall inside the apartment. Officers were unable to locate the suspect(s).

 

April 7, 10:45 to 11:30 p.m.
Burglary in the 2900 block of University Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated she returned to her residency to find her laptop, valued at $1,200, mission. The victim stated she left his front door unlocked. There are so suspect(s) at this time. CV

 

Busted

Name: Scott DeMarco Newman
The story: Des Moines Police were tipped that law enforcement was looking for a man, later identified as Newman, driving a tan or creme colored Caprice classic. As officers were headed westbound on University Avenue, they observed a vehicle driven by Newman heading east on University Avenue. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 2000 block of East University, but Newman took off traveling at a high rate of speed and running stop signs. Newman was recorded traveling 70 mph in a 25 mph in a residential area. The pursuit lasted approximately eight minutes before officers used a pursuit intervention to stop his car. Newman was placed under arrest without further incident. He was charged with eluding, fourth-degree theft, domestic abuse, first-degree harassment, obstruction of emergency communications, interference with official acts and no driver’s license.
