Don’t get so holy
Your recent commentary (“Catholic Soul Searching,” April 8) was relevant in encouraging those in the Catholic Church to critically review how it sets apart its clergy which to many of us outside the church, has appeared protecting and exempting them from Child Abuse laws.
However the article’s real surprise to me was the editor’s pronouncement that the celibacy requirement of priests was the underlying reason for them becoming pedophiles. While forced celibacy might have its psychological ramifications, I challenge Cityview to show any research connecting these two as cause and effect. This new finding will probably also be of interest to the American Psychiatric Association. It appears that Cityview now has expanded into medicine in addition to the science of humor and entertainment and has now become a journalistic peer of JAMA.

Picking a winner
Art Neu remains one of the greatest assets in Iowa (“25 People Not Running for Governor (but should),” April 8). How refreshing would an Art Neu for Governor campaign be? Intelligent dialogue and discussions of real issues with real solutions. As bad as the State of Iowa needs leadership like his, the Republican party needs it worse. I suspect he is too intelligent to subject himself to the politics of today.

Not the governor yet
I see Mr. Branstad’s campaign site is GovernorBranstad2010.com. He may have been governor once, but he isn’t-yet-in 2010. Didn’t Republicans learn anything about being overly complacent and having high expectations from ‘Iowa needs Governor Lightfoot?’ On the other hand, that did turn out rather well... for Lightfoot’s opponent.
