Officials with the Department of Agriculture will host “Figuring Out the Price” conference on Friday, April 2 on the capitol grounds hosted by Jonathan Narcisse. Des Moines mayor Frank Cownie will host a three-minute webinar session called “Two Reasons to Move out of Birdland Now” on Monday, April 5 at 6 a.m. on the city’s Web site. “The first reason has to do with flooding,” states Cownie in a press release. “The second has to do with more flooding.” Register online at www.wetdesmoines.com.
Femi-newspapering
Des Moines Register columnist Rheka Basu will be the femi-note speaker at the National Femi-newspaper Association’s annual convention on April 31 at the Webster County Museum, 515 School Street in Otho. Volunteers needed with keen eyesight
The Iowa Department of Transportation and the Iowa Legislature are seeking volunteers to help spot motorists ages 14 to 17 who use cell phones while driving. Volunteers must drive for an hour a day and upon sighting perpetrators, must immediately text officials the license plates, physical descriptions of the cars and appearance of the suspects. To volunteer, participants must have a valid drivers’ license, a cell phone with full keypad, good hand-eye coordination and 20/20 vision. CV
