Des Moines Police
March 5-9

March 5-9, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Robbery in the 4600 block of Ingersoll Avenue. The victim stated he parked his work van on March 5 and returned on March 8 and found the rear window of the driver’s side broken. Then on March 9, the victim noticed that two cordless drills, valued at $500, and a roto hammer, valued at $750, were missing from the vehicle. Officers were unable to locate the suspect(s).

March 8, 9:23 p.m.
Robbery in the 3000 block of Forest Avenue The victim stated she was in the back of the Subway restaurant when she heard people enter. The victim came forward to see three suspects enter the store and one suspect point a black handgun at her. The suspect told the victim to open the drawer and approximately $100 was taken. The suspects fled the scene and ran westbound. The victim stated that store’s security system did not work. Officers were unable to locate the suspects.

March 9, 1:58 a.m.
Assault in the 200 block of Court Avenue. Upon arrival, both victims advised officers that they were walking out of a bar when they were assaulted for no apparent reason. One victim had multiple bruises and red marks on his face, while the other victim had redness and swelling on her right forearm. The suspect(s) then stated the victims had initiated the fight. There were no independent witnesses to confirm either side of the story. No one was charged in the incident. CV

Name:
Tycin Montez Nickens
The story: While on duty, officers observed a vehicle driving erratically in the 2300 block of Saylor Road. The suspect, later identified as Nickens, was driving his vehicle on the left side of the road and then moved over onto the ride side. Nickens made multiple turns and began swerving side to side on the street and started driving at a high rate of speed. Nickens eventually lost control of his vehicle, went over a curb and came to a stop in a yard. Officers approached the passenger side of the vehicle at gunpoint and gave Nickens several verbal commands to put his hands in the air. Nickens disregarded orders and dug around in his vehicle for something. Nickens then exited another door and ran westbound into a house. Officers found Nickens in a bedroom basement, and he was taken into custody. Officers found a handgun, a loaded magazine and a single bullet in his car. Nickens was charged with eluding, driving while revoked, interference with official acts, carrying concealed weapons and fraudulent use of registration.
