Fit for a King
When freelance reporter and western Iowan Douglas Burns pitched the idea of running a cover story on Congressman Steve King to me, I kiddingly commented that King was “just another nut from western Iowa.” Burns replied, “With the upcoming redistricting, he may soon be your nut.” It’s not so funny now.
Burns has followed King for years and has written about him many times in a variety of publications and Web sites, including his family’s newspaper in Carroll. Burns could write a book about King’s moronic ways — in fact, he has. This week’s cover story summarizes Burns’ collection of King’s past blunders and a few recent ones, too.
You have undoubtedly heard or read about some of them, as King has maneuvered his way into the national press repeatedly with his comments and proposals. We should probably thank the congressman for providing frequent material for us to write about in this paper. But having said all this, he has a loyal following, and western Iowans continue to cast ballots for him.
So with all this in mind, we offer you our cover story that truly is… fit for a King. CV
