The Des Moines City Council recently approved $6,822 for Amanda Cowman, senior police officer, to attend a ten-week accredited course in Austin, Texas, from April 9 to June 20. The course will result in certification as a polygrapher. The council also approved $2,062 for Michael West, senior police officer, to attend the 2010 National Lifesavers Conference in Philadelphia, Penn., from April 9 to 14. The conference will cover new procedures used by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The amount budgeted for travel for the 2010 fiscal year is $629,436. CV
