Feb. 6-7, 5:30 p.m. to 8:45 a.m.
Burglary in the 600 block of East 6th Street. The victim met with police and stated the suspect(s) attempted but failed to pry open the front door. The suspect(s) then took a chunk of blacktop curbing and threw it through both the outer and inner entrance doors. The victim stated a television, drawers and DVDs, valued at more than $1,000 were taken. Officers were unable to locate the suspect(s).
Feb. 7, unknown time
Burglary in the 1400 block of 5th Avenue. The victim stated an unknown person had entered his home through a south-facing window that has been broken into in the past. The suspect took several mountain bikes, valued at approximately $700, from the residency. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Feb. 7, 11:35 p.m.
Assault causing injury and robbery at the intersection of Mondamin Avenue and Martin Luther King Parkway. The victim told officers she was walking westbound when she heard footsteps behind her. She turned around a black male was following her and said, “Hey.” The suspect then hit her in the right side of the face and knocked her to the ground where he then kicked and punched her repeatedly. The victim said she was able to escape and run north on Martin Lutheran King Parkway. The suspect ran eastbound on Mondamin Avenue. The victim stated the suspect took her coat and her phone. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. CV
The story: While traveling, officers observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by Espey, with a broken rear driver’s side window. Officers initiated a traffic stop because the vehicle had unreadable plates. Officers made contact with the occupants and observed a plastic baggie with marijuana and pipe shoved between the center console and the passenger seat. Officers then took Espey out of the vehicle, placed him in handcuffs and placed him the back of the squad car. Officers then ran Espey’s name through the database and found he had also been wanted for assault with willful injury. He was transported to the Polk County Jail. Espey was charged with assault willful injury, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
