Feb. 1
Feb. 1, 7 a.m. to 5:50 p.m.
Burglary in the 1400 block of East 23rd Street. Victims stated they returned from work and found their television, electronics and jewelry were missing. It appeared their paperwork had been gone through and cash was also taken from under the mattress. The victims found the bedroom window was open but don’t know if it was locked or not. Items missing were a 42-inch flatscreen television, digital camera, memory card and various jewelry. Officers were unable to locate the suspect(s).
Feb. 1, 12:58 p.m.
Robbery in the 2900 block of Easter Lake Drive. Upon arrival, officers observed the door to the garage was open, and it appeared to involve forced entry. The deadbolt was broken, and there were wood splinters around the door jam. The reporting person stated the garage has been broken into in the past but that nothing appeared to be taken at that time either. There are no suspect(s) at this time.
Feb. 1, 4:10 p.m.
Assault in the 3330 block of Martin Luther King Parkway. The victim stated she was in the Hy-Vee parking lot when the suspect exited her vehicle and an argument over a mutual boyfriend ensued. The argument turned physical, and the victim struck the suspect with a six-pack of beer. The suspect then grabbed a beer bottle and repeatedly struck the victim in the face, causing serious injury. The suspect then fled the scene, and the victim sought medical help. During the course of the fight, both women fell against two vehicles causing minor damage to both. Busted
Name: Jennifer Kay Cordova
The story: Officers were dispatched on a child in need of assistance. Upon arrival, officers met with reporting person who stated there was a young girl home alone and her mom was at the bar. Officers entered the residency and found the young girl, who ran into their arms. The officers observed head lice on the girl, who appeared to be terrified and traumatized. The suspect, later identified as Cordova, returned home from the bar and stated it was the first time she had left the girl alone at home. Cordova stated she left the house between 11 to 11:30 p.m. and had consumed three shots. Officers observed limited food in the refrigerator and what appeared to be physical abuse. Cordova was arrested for child neglect and transported to the Polk County Jail without incident. The girl was released to her great-grandparent.
