Limbaugh lovers come to his defense
After reading Walt Shotwell’s Guest Commentary (“Please WHO Radio, cancel Limbaugh,” Jan. 28) lambasting Rush Limbaugh, only one word comes to mind — hypocrite. Without the benefit of our constitution and its provision for free speech, Mr. Shotwell may well have spent his career bussing tables at a local restaurant.

I’m sure Shotwell disagrees with Limbaugh. But I think jealousy is probably a more attributing factor to his diatribe. As we all know, journalism is not the highest paying job awaiting a college graduate. And guys like Shotwell just steam over the tremendous success of Mr. Limbaugh, who not only is a conservative but also did not enjoy the luxury of a college education.

It’s curious that the Shotwells of the world prefer to silence opposing views rather than debate.

Easy solution to the problem
Mr. Shotwell, there is a very easy way to rid the airways of hate mongers like Rush and others of his ilk (“Please WHO Radio, cancel Limbaugh,” Jan. 28). Simply get a list of his sponsors, and then write each one a letter telling them as long as they sponsor such drivel, you will no longer purchase their product - and then follow through. It won’t be long before his kind is at the front of the unemployment lines.

Quit targeting teens for selective service
Local radio stations continue to advertise to teenagers, demanding they sign up for Selective Service. What youth should also know is they have a legal choice to place in large letters the words “conscientious objection” on these same forms if they determine that, in good faith, they are unable to endorse killing. Thousands in our own history have gone the route of conscientious objection because they see it in their hearts that they only have one life and it would be better to live it without taking the life of another.
