Grammy nominated rock band Stone Sour, led by Des Moines singer and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor, is working on a new album for Roadrunner Records, their first in four years, the band’s publicist said. The new album is due out this summer. In a statement, Taylor said, “This is the year for Stone Sour.”

The House of Bricks hosts the “Aquarius Party” on Friday, Jan. 29 at 9 p.m. DJ Kwickstar, The Syndicate, K.P. and T.R.A. will perform. Admission is $5 before 10 p.m.; $7 after 10 p.m.; or free for those with Aquarius birthdays.

Westminster Presbyterian Church’s Anchor Coffee House hosts a concert by indie-folk artist Ellis on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Free babysitting is provided. Call 274-1534.

Maestro Joseph Giunta and the Des Moines Symphony will present their fourth Masterworks concert of the 2009-10 season on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 31 at 2:30 p.m. at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines. Tickets are $15 - $54 through Ticketmaster and the box office with students seats discounted at half price.

Americana rocker Joe Pug performs Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. Tickets are $10. The Warehouse Birds and Eric Kennedy open.

Rosanne Cash, on tour promoting her new album “The List,” performs Feb. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City. Tickets, $10 - $47, are available by calling 1-800-HANCHER.
Rounder Records singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer performs Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at First Christian Church in Des Moines. Tickets are $20 through IowaTix or the church.

Backyard Tire Fire plays the Vaudeville Mews on Feb. 20 at 10 p.m. Tickets are $10. … Also playing the Mews next month: Headlights, with openers Cashes Rivers and Hanwell. Tickets for the all-ages 5:30 p.m. show are $10.

The Des Moines Symphony Academy will host its fifth annual PAJAM-RAMA benefit concert featuring Des Moines native and children’s vocalist Justin Roberts and The Not Ready for Naptime Players on Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. at the Scottish Rite Consistory. Children and adults are encouraged to wear their pajamas and to bring pillows. Tickets are $15 for the concert or $20 for the concert and a PB&J lunch. Austin, Texas-based roots-rock musician Seth Walker performs Feb. 21 at the Flying Mango in Des Moines.

Months ago we told you that local jazz promoter Abe Goldstien had been contacted by the Dutch government to present a concert by Dutch trumpeter Eric Vloeimans. Now Goldstien is happy to report that the details have been finalized and Vloeimans and his trio Fugimundi (guitar, piano) will indeed perform on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. at The Caspe Terrace in Waukee. Details on tickets forthcoming.

Jam band Umphrey’s McGee makes a stop in Iowa City at the Iowa Memorial Union on March 10. The show starts at 7 p.m. and tickets are $22.50, available at the University of Iowa Box Office and Ticketmaster.

Two shows coming to People’s Court: Dashboard Confessional performs March 12 at 6 p.m. for an all-ages concert; and Five for Fighting, with Matt Wertz, performs March 21 at 7 p.m. for all-ages. Tickets are $25 for each show through IowaTix. CV
