Well fans, after the Indianapolis Colts ruined the New York Jets amazing end-of-the season run and the New Orleans Saints squeaked by victoriousLY against the Minnesota Vikings, two teams head to Miami to battle it out in Superbowl XLIV (that’s 44 to all of you non-Romans). Game Day isn’t too concerned with who will be named champion (more on that next week), but we want to give out a few of our own awards before the season comes to a close.
The “Nobody is Going to Break My Stride” award goes to Tennessee Titans RB Chris Johnson. Johnson, who is a freak of nature, rushed for a league-leading 2,006 six yards on the season. He’s easily one of the fastest players in the league and doesn’t shy away from contact. There was talk of Johnson racing sprinter Usain Bolt at the Superbowl, but apparently it isn’t going to happen. Game Day thinks Bolt is scared — not of Johnson’s speed but because his mouth is filled with gangsta rapper gold teeth.
The “This is My House” award goes to San Francisco 49er ILB Patrick Willis. The third-year beast from Mississippi has been the building block for the 49ers still-growing-but-becoming-more-dominant power defense. Willis had a league-leading 152 tackles this year, but the scary stat is that in only three seasons, he has amassed 467 tackles. Be afraid! Be very afraid!
The “Who The Hell is That Guy” award goes to Houston Texans QB Matt Schaub. Schaub — who led the NFL with 4,770 passing yards and finished with 29 TDs — couldn’t even lead his team to the playoffs. The guy only has one good offensive weapon (WR Andre Johnson, 1,569 receiving yards) and a defense that struggled, so can you blame him for the Texans’ failures? When people look back on this season, expecting to see Peyton Manning or Drew Brees at the top of the list and find Schaub, they’ll immediately ask, “Who The Hell is That Guy?” CV
