Des Moines Police Jan. 6-7
Jan. 6, 6:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Burglary in the 2900 block of East 23rd Street. The victim stated she returned home from work and noticed a printer from her closet in the middle of her room. Her clothes and other items in the bedroom had been ransacked. There were no signs of forced entry to the door, but the victim admitted leaving the front door unlocked. The victim stated she was missing a digital camera, Nintendo DS and cash, valued at $370. There are no suspect(s) at this time.
Jan. 7, 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
Assault in the 3800 block of 2nd Ave. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated her younger sister was assaulted by the suspect, their stepdad, after the victim’s sister asked if she could spend the night at a friend’s house. When the suspect declined, the younger sister became mad. The suspect ordered the sister to go downstairs into the cold basement. After a while, the sister checked on her younger sister and found blood on her face. She asked the suspect what happened, and he responded, “Why the fuck do you care?” The suspect then left the building. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Jan. 7, unknown time
Domestic assault causing injury in the 3100 block of State Avenue. Upon arrival, the victim stated she was talking to a friend on the phone when her boyfriend who lives with her became angry he could not sleep with her talking. The suspect took the phone from the victim, unhooked it and then threw an ashtray at her. The suspect then picked the victim up and threw her on the chair and began to hit her in the face. The victim was able to escape and run to a neighbor’s residency. Officers observed redness and swelling on the victim’s head. Officers were unable to locate the suspect. CV
Busted
Name: Christopher Timothy Mace
The story: Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated that her live-in boyfriend of six years, later identified as Mace, had been physically assaulting her all day. According to the victim, they had been fighting all day and the fighting had increased because both of them had been drinking alcohol. The victim said Mace had been paddling her buttocks more than 30 times with a wooden paddle. After a short while, both the victim and Mace calmed down. The victim went to sleep on the couch, but was awakened when Mace tried to have sex, but she refused. Mace then became angry and pushed the victim around the room causing, her to hit her head on the ground. Mace was taken into custody without incident and charged with domestic assault causing injury.
