The first annual “Snow Ball,” featuring performances by local metal bands Destrophy, Mindrite, Index Case, Dead Horse Trauma and The Boston Hellmask, will be held Friday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at People’s Court. Tickets to the all-ages performance are $10 in advance through IowaTix.

Two local rock bands, The Soapbox Prophets and The Dig Angees, will perform an all-ages “Sunday Evening Service” concert on Sunday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. at the Vaudeville Mews. Admission is $5.

The Central Iowa Blues Society will host its annual Winter Blues Fest on Jan. 30 at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott hotel. Nine local and national acts will perform on five stages, including The Midnight Dogs, The Avery Brothers, Delta Highway, The Side Effects, Levee Town, Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat, Brandon Scott Sellne and the Everett Smithson Band. The event includes an after-hours jam hosted by Trouble No More and food. Advance tickets, $12, are available through Blues on Grand or online at www.cibs.org. Tickets the day of the show are $15.

The Used return to the Val Air Ballroom for a concert on Feb. 3. Atreyu opens the show. Tickets are $25 through Ticketmaster or the ballroom’s box office.

Four Letter Lie, Classic in the Making, Lovehatehero, Of Machines and Sleeping with Sirens perform Feb. 7 at House of Bricks. Tickets are $10 through IowaTix or the club.

Veil of Maya, Animals as Leaders, Circle of Contempt and PeriphPeriphery perform Feb. 18 at the Vaudeville Mews for an all-ages show. Tickets are $10 through IowaTix.

Country music singer Jason Aldean performs March 10 at Hilton Coliseum in Ames. Luke Bryan opens. Tickets TBA.

Electric Six plays March 21 at the Vaudeville Mews for a 7 p.m. show. Advance tickets are $12 through IowaTix now or $15 at the door. Tyborn Jig opens the show.

The AP Tour featuring Nevershoutnever, Hey Monday, The Cab, Every Avenue and The Summer Set play an all-ages April 8 concert at People’s Court. Tickets are $15 through IowaTix.

Americana artist Kasey Anderson performs May 8 at the Vaudeville Mews. He is set to release his fourth album, “Nowhere Nights” in February.

People’s Court owner Tom Zmolek is planning a concert series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of People’s, formerly of Ames and now in Des Moines. Three acts so far have been announced including Martin Zellar (Jan. 23), The Twilight Hours (Jan. 30) and Tina Schlieske, formerly of Tina & the B Sides (March 5). Tickets for the shows range in price from $10 to $20 and are available through IowaTix.

The Destination Lounge, 1101 E. Army Post Road, a 9,000-square-foot club owned by Jim Bordenaro, will open in March and will host live music and a large dance floor, as well as other bar fare including pool tables, bike and car shows, poker runs, charity events and pizza.
