Sharpening the blade

As our state legislature goes into session for 2010, one subject will dominate the floor — the budget.

With cuts, cuts and more cuts ahead, the debate will become lively as our elected officials defend their pet projects and chastise each other for doing the same. But amidst the slashing, a few issues will rise to the surface including proposed legislation on gun control. Reporter Matt Miller offers a legislative preview in this week’s cover story with perspectives from several political leaders.

Freelance columnist Douglas Burns continues the political discussion in Political Mercury, as he shares the impact of one of last year’s hottest legislative issues — gay marriage.

Herb Strentz provides commentary on Bobby Bowden’s exit as Florida State’s head football coach, questioning the definition of leaving on your own terms.

Civic Skinny takes a couple of cheap shots and asks how long one must look at a seven-foot snow penis to determine it to be “very realistic.”

Food Dude shares the highs and lows of a food lover’s decade.

And Belly Up challenges us to arcade games and tasty drinks at Fanatics.

All this and much more in this week’s Cityview. Thanks for reading. CV
