A final look at 2009
We say goodbye to 2009 in this week’s cover story with a review of the stories that graced our pages in each of the last 12 months. Much like the retro cassette player used as our cover image, we rewind our minds to think back about the people, places and events of 2009. News items like gay marriage, BBQ joints, declining graduation rates, road rallies and pink chaps headlined our coverage. We added new columns including Political Mercury, a weekly book review, concert reviews/photos and GameDay. We brought back staples like our Best of Des Moines, Fall Book Reviews, State Fair Fashion, Arts & Entertainment guides and Robert Hullihan’s Christmas classic. And who could forget our April Fools edition with City of the Apes? We even started a new tradition with our annual pick of Des Moines’ sexiest people.
Despite economic hardships for newspapers stuck in antiquated approaches or banking their future on the Internet, 2009 proved to be another solid year in nearly every measurable way for Cityview. And we look forward to more progress in our efforts to serve each of you in 2010.
Thanks for reading. CV
