Welcome the season
Holiday Lights Des Moines will take place Friday, Nov. 26 at Brenton Skating Plaza, 520 Robert D. Ray Drive. The event, which runs from 4 to 7 p.m., will feature live performances from musicians and choirs, along with carriage rides, seasonal food vendors, face painting and an appearance by Santa Claus. Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie will “Flip the Switch” at 6:25 p.m. Admission is free. Brenton Skating Plaza will also be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission for adults is $4.50, children ages 6 to 12 and seniors are $3.50 and children ages 5 and under are free. Cookie Walk benefits YJI
The Sixth Great Cookie Walk will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Parkway. The event, which takes place from 9 a.m. to noon, will feature fresh, homemade, holiday and gourmet cookies. Proceeds from the walk will be given to Youth Justice Initiative of West Des Moines. Dress to impress at 5K
The City of West Des Moines will host the Second Annual Greater Santa Run on Dec. 12 with a 5K run/walk around the city and school campus. The event starts at 9 a.m. and is open to any runner of any skill level. Participants are encouraged to dress in costume for additional chances to win prizes. Register at www.runningroom.com. State legislative agenda luncheon set
The Greater Des Moines Partnership will unveil its 2010 state legislative agenda on Dec. 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Des Moines Marriott, 700 Grand Ave. During the luncheon, Iowa Senate and House Leadership will provide a preview of the upcoming session, followed by a question and answer session.
