Bowling for Soup
The House of Bricks, Nov. 11
Pop punk fans packed The House of Bricks and were entertained with a hilarious show from Bowling For Soup. The air-tight set featured numerous songs from the band’s breakthrough albums, “Drunk Enough to Dance” and “A Hangover You Don’t Deserve,” as well as their new album, “Sorry For Partyin’.” The all-ages crowd sang along to new singles “No Hablo Inglés” and “Hooray for Beer,” but it was their radio-friendly singles “Almost,” “Girl All the Bad Guys Want” and “1985” that moved this audience. The band bantered with fans between songs and took time for an audience photo break, posing for many flashing cameras. Bowling For Soup has been performing long enough to learn a thing or two, and it shows. Front man Jaret Reddick opened the show to audience requests but warned the crowd, “Don’t request ‘1985.’ We play that song last so everyone won’t leave before the end of the show.” Even a cover of Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold” was surprisingly good, with Reddick stating, “We didn’t write that song. But if we did, we’d be touring in like six buses and have new shoes.” Reddick also spoke about the allure of illegally acquiring copies of their new album, “If you don’t have the album, steal it. But not by downloading it, steal it from a record store so you earned it.” This band had a blast on stage. They know they aren’t as high on the pecking order as they use to be, but that doesn’t stop Bowling For Soup from putting on one hell of a show. CV — Jared Curtis
