Des Moines Police Nov. 8-10
Nov. 8, 1:09 a.m.
Assault causing injury in the 1300 block of Washington Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who was bleeding from his head and stated that a guy jumped him for no apparent reason. Witnesses say that the victim was “running his mouth” all night, and the suspect got sick of it and started the fight. Witnesses say the suspect pushed the victim causing him to fall and hit his head. After the fight, the suspect fled the scene. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Nov. 7, 5:37 p.m.
Robbery in the 100 block of Locust St. The victim stated he was standing in a parking lot when two subjects approached him, and one of them attempted to grab his necklace. A scuffle ensued, and both suspects punched him in the head and in the back. The victim was able to escape to a nearby apartment where the suspects then threw rocks. The suspects fled the scene when the owner of the apartment came outside. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.
Nov. 10, 12:30 a.m.
Assault in the 1600 block of Hull Avenue. Officers were dispatched to Mercy Medical Hospital on an assault report. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated the suspect and he had been in an argument earlier in the day. The victim said when he arrived home from work, the suspect approached him in the apartment parking lot and the two were engaged in a verbal argument, which ended with the suspect punching the victim in the face, causing a cut above his eye. The suspect walked off in an unknown direction and said, “This was not over.” Officers were unable to locate the suspect. CV
Busted
Name: Curtis Beryl Hickle
The story: Witnesses called 911 to inform officers that a male and female were fighting at the intersection of Water and Vine streets. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, later identified as Hickle, in the middle of the street yelling at the victim who was crying on the curb. Witnesses say that Hickle struck the victim several times and was out of control. When officers approached Hickle, they noticed a heavy odor of alcohol along with blood-shot watery eyes and slurred speech. When officers attempted to handcuff Hickle, he refused. Hickle was uncooperative and continued to yell and scream while waiting for the wagon. Hickle was arrested with simple domestic assault, public intoxication and interference.
