CONCERT REVIEW

Mason Cain, Druids, Tyborn Jig and Jucifer
Vaudeville Mews, Oct. 20

good Tuesday night crowd showed up at Vaudeville Mews to experience one of the loudest bands touring today, Jucifier. I wore earplugs, but my head was still ringing after the explosive duo’s set finished. Opening act Mason Cain was the first of three duos to take stage. Druids, straight from Pella, followed with a set of stoner rock that kept heads banging. Following the first two bands, local rockers Tyborn Jig performed their first show in four months. After a short tribute to wrestling legend Capt. Lou Albano and a funny comment about being sorry they weren’t a duo, the band tore through a short but sweet set of hard rocking tunes. Singer and tattoo artist Ace Wilde is a born front man with charisma oozing out of his tattooed-covered pores. Their set was straightforward hard rock, and they didn’t disappoint. Following Tyborn Jig was the headliner of the night, Jucifer. The band had at least nine bass cabinets on stage (as many as nine speakers could be seen inside a few of the stacks), which blasted eardrums. Smoke machines bellowed, and an acid-trip-gone-bad light show added to Amber Valentine’s opening riff, which sent a wall of sound surging through the crowd. Valentine and her partner, Edgar Livengood, thrashed through a jaw dropping set with Livengood pounding his kit like a man possessed. Jucifer is on a different level, and their do-it-yourself attitude and performance adds to the band’s mystique. My hearing will come back, but the memories of this show won’t fade.
