Trophy’s Sports Bar and Grill
Ever had a hankering for a tower of beer to cool down those gutter balls? How about playing volleyball on Florida sand? Or video games? Or pool? Well, you can do it all at Plaza Lanes Family Sports Complex, home of Trophy’s Sports Bar and Grill.
“We remodeled the old Canopy Lounge in 2003,” said owner Randy Thompson. “We needed a change in the bar and wanted to freshen up the place. It was a real metamorphosis from what we had originally planned.”
The bar is covered in sports memorabilia from pennants and pictures to jerseys. There are numerous tables and booths (each with its own flat screen TV) and a large U-shaped bar. With more than 30 TVs in the bar, it’s the perfect place to catch the game.
Tuesday is “Tailgate Tuesday” from 3 p.m. until midnight. Specials include $2 domestic draws, $2.25 domestic bottles, $3 tropharitas and $5 all-you-can-eat wings (starting at 9 p.m.) They also give out tickets for upcoming Iowa State, Iowa, Northern Iowa and Kansas games. On Saturday, Sunday and Monday night, stop in for college and NFL games specials including $2.75 16 oz. domestic draws, $3.75 23 oz. domestic draws, $12 buckets (five domestic bottles) and $15 towers of beer.
“We just upgraded all of our TVs, and we have numerous comments about how great the TVs are,” he said.
Trophy’s offers an array of nightly drink specials. On Monday, stop in for $2.75 16 oz. and $3.75 24 oz. domestic draws. Tuesday is “Date Night.” Get two sandwiches and a pitcher of pop or beer for $19.95, as well as $3 Bacardi and UV drinks. Wednesday offers $2.75 wells. On Thursday, enjoy $3 Jack Daniels and Captain Morgan drinks. Get your weekend started on Friday with $4 bombs. Stop in for $4 liquid cocaine on Saturday. And cure the hangover on Sunday with $4 Bloody Marys and free pool. Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday with $2.50 16 oz. draws and 50 cents off all other drinks, along with each daily drink special. They also host karaoke nightly starting at 10 p.m.
“We have some great daily specials, and we have $6 domestic pitchers and $8 specialty pitchers all the time,” Thompson said.
With so much to do in one location, Trophy’s is the perfect place to start the day or end the night with some fun.
“We have great food and great drink specials. Our sand flag football season is about to start, and teams of seven can sign up at the bar,” Thompson said. “There is so many things to do, you could spend an entire day here.”
Last call: Manning’s, 2102 Indianola Ave., is hosting its 7th Annual Halloween Party on Saturday, Oct. 31. There will be drink specials and a costume contest, as well as a free keg (while it lasts) at 7 p.m. CV
