Des Moines Police Oct. 9 & 12

 

Oct. 9, 12:31 a.m.
Assault causing injury in the 2300 block of Hickman Road. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated he was arguing with the suspect in the bar over not paying child support. The fight continued outside, and the suspect struck the victim over the head with an unknown object. The victim had visual injuries and swelling on the head. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

 

Oct. 9, 11 p.m.
Domestic assault in the 2700 block of East Maple Street. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that her husband had assaulted her. According to the victim, earlier in the day she had moved some of her stuff out and left a note for her husband because she was not happy with the relationship. The husband said if she didn’t get her stuff out by a certain time, he would put it out on the curb and light it on fire. The victim went to retrieve her stuff, and her husband confronted her by grabbing her by her throat and arms. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.

 

Oct. 12, 12:30 a.m.
Burglary in the 2100 block of 47th Street. The victim reported that someone got into her garage overnight and multiple items including several electrician’s tools, a chainsaw, golf clubs, and disc golf set, valued at $4,500, were missing. There were no signs of forced entry, and the victim believes the garage door opener was used. There are suspect(s) at this time. CV

 

Busted

Name: Steven Edward Murphy

The story: Upon arrival, the victim stated that the suspect, later identified as Murphy, started to inappropriately touch waitresses. As the victim told him to stop, Murphy grabbed him by the neck and said “You want me to fuck you in the ass?” Two cooks grabbed the suspect and took him to his vehicle. Murphy then got out with a tire iron and broke out his vehicle’s window. Murphy was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and first-degree harassment. Murphy was arrested and taken to the Polk County Jail.
