Your view

All is fair in love and politics

I do not know what connection Emily Mosqueda has to Eric Branstad, but she took the wounded-victim approach and accused me of personally attacking him (“Your View,” Oct. 15). If I wished to attack Eric Branstad, (and why should I, unless he is the one running for office) I would mention many more teenage peccadillos, ones I instead hope he learned and grew up from.

But no, I politically attacked former Gov. Terry Branstad, who as an adult misused his power of office to smooth over a terrible incident. The other half of my letter, which Ms. Mosqueda was apparently too uneducated to read, also mentioned that Gov. Branstad had tried to steal workers’ wages under the pretext of saving the State of Iowa money, and instead cost the State extra when they had to be repaid.

Where has customer service gone?

For the past couple of years, I have been serving this city as a cab driver, which has made it possible for me to not only give customer service, but to experience it as well.

When you go through a drive through and only order a sour cream and chive baked potato to go with a nice steak on the grill, dropping a buck and change is a quick substitute. I opened the bag and found a baked potato — no chives, no sour cream and there wasn’t even butter.

Calling the store, I get a hold of a very young sounding man who claimed to be the manager. I asked how could you screw up a baked potato with sour cream and chives when that was the only item ordered with no one in line in front of me? He was apologetic and offered to fix my problem.

Why am I so upset about some missing sour cream? Well I guess it was the preverbal last straw that broke the camel’s back. Bad service is just that, bad service.

(Corrections: In a recent Food Dude article (“Sakari and 21 — sushi fits in,” Oct. 8) we mistakenly wrote that Nick Sisomphane graduated from the University of Iowa. We also incorrectly listed 21 sushi bar’s address. The correct address is 2314 University Ave.)
