Ankeny Art Center hosts photo contest
The sixth Annual Ankeny Art Center Photo Contest, 1520 S.W. Ordnance Road, will start Thursday, Oct. 15 and will run through Nov. 20. The opening reception for the contest will be held Thursday, Oct. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded to Best in Show, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Visit www.ankenyartcenter.com.

Winterization workshop offered
Thrivent Builds Neighborhoods Project will host a winterization workshop on Monday, Oct. 19 at Casady School Building, 1801 16th St. The event runs from 6 to 7:15 p.m. with live demonstrations on how to winterize windows and doors. Register for Reggie’s Sleepout
Registration is open for the fourth Annual Reggie’s Sleepout, which takes place Oct. 24 at Drake Stadium, 27th Street and Forest Avenue. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m. and raises awareness and money to address youth homelessness in central Iowa. Activities include food, games, music and educational activities and a Boxed-In Design contest. Participants may also register the day of the event from 3 to 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit Iowa Homeless Youth Centers and the Des Moines Area Religious Council. Visit www.reggiessleepout.org. CV
