The Des Moines City Council recently approved $2,189 for Michael Towey, human rights specialist, to attend the National Fair Housing Training Academy, from Oct. 25 to 31 in Washington D.C. The training is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The council also approved $1,628 for Sgt. Robin Sprafka to attend the Mounted Patrol Instruction Certification course in Omaha, Neb., from Oct. 25 to Nov. 6. The council also approved $1,926 for Lt. Paul Stout to attend a Crime Scene Technology Course in Evanston, Ill., from Oct. 25 to 30. The course provides training in crime scene assessment, a variety of chemical processes used in evidence processing and gathering, along with legal issues of evidence.
