The Des Moines City Council recently approved $1,318 for Brian Dennis, FSS coordinator, to attend the 2009 National Service Coordinator Conference in Chicago, Ill., from Sept. 19 to 23. The council also approved $850 for Thomas Vlassis, council member, to attend the National League of Cities Conference in Muskegon, Mich., from Sept. 22 to 26. The council also approved $2,190 for Douglas Philiph, assistant city attorney, to attend the IACP Annual Conference in Denver, Colo., from Oct. 2 to 6. The conference allows attorneys to keep current on legal and other issues affecting law enforcement. The amount budgeted for travel for the 2010 fiscal year is $629,436. The amount expended for travel as of Sept. 4 is $56,177.
