The last weekend of the Des Moines Renaissance Faire takes place Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20 at Sleepy Hollow Sports Park, 4501 Dean Ave. Saturday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day during the festival of European culture and history. Tour remodeled homes this weekend
The Remodelers Council of Greater Des Moines will hold its ninth Annual Tour of Remodeled Homes on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20. Tours will be open to view 14 remodeled homes in the area from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Tickets are $10 for adults and ages 5 and under are free. Meet at the fountain

The fall schedule for Fridays at the Fountain begins Friday, Sept. 18 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at West Glen Town Center. Admission is $5. Live music, beer, cocktails, wine and food stations will be spread across the terrace. Fridays at the Fountain is also scheduled for Sept. 25 and Oct. 9. Breakfast with Bell

The Fort Des Moines Museum, 75 E. Army Post Road, will welcome former ABC news anchor Steve Bell to breakfast on Sept. 25 at 8:30 a.m. Bell, who covered the Vietnam War, served as the first news anchor for “Good Morning America” and who is a professor at Ball State University, will speak on the media and its changing role in shaping public attitudes toward the military. Indulge to help pantry

The seventh annual Hy-Vee Colossal Cookie Sale, benefiting the Des Moines Area Religious Council Emergency Food Pantry, runs through Sept. 28. For each cookie sold, Hy-Vee will donate one penny to the Emergency Food Pantry. The DMARC Emergency Food Pantry provides a free, five-day supply of balanced food once every 30 days to help short-term needs for families in Des Moines.
