Stimulus money watch
On. Sept. 3, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee reported that Iowa is currently second in the country for the percentage of federal recovery highway and bridge funds already put to use on projects. The committee reports that 85 percent of the federal money for Iowa has already been awarded to contractors, with 75 percent of the work underway. President Barack Obama signed the stimulus bill on Feb. 17, and Wyoming is the only state awarded and contracted a larger percentage for highway and bridge projects.
